Service Description

This six week course run by Rupert Brakspear will take you through the steps required to locate, process, test, and use your own found clays. Workshop 1 - May 15th: Introductions, expectations, and a presentation. You will be walked through the key preparation steps you will need to take for coming sessions. Workshop 2 - May 22nd: Preparing wild clay and other materials (step one), and saggar making. Workshop 3 - May 29th: Preparing wild clay (step two), saggar making, and stamp making. Workshop 4 - June 5th: Preparing wild clay (step 3), finishing saggars and stamps. Workshop 5 - June 12th: Testing wild clays. Workshop 6 - June 19th: Testing wild clays as glazes. Most materials are supplied, however we ask that you provide your own: Respirator Apron/ Studio appropriate overalls 3-5L plastic bucket for storage Ideally your own source of wild clay - (dried, plus a small wet sample of original). Max 3 kg dry weight. DATE AND TIME: Wednesdays May 15th- June 19th, 7-830pm Price includes all items fired at the appropriate test temperatures If you are looking for clay on land that is not your own, please be aware of ownership/ status of the land and seek permission to dig and use materials beforehand.
