Step into a world where tiny creatures carry big stories. In this masterclass, we'll explore the magic of sculptural storytelling, transforming clay into expressive little beings, each with their own personality, history, and quiet adventures waiting to unfold. Drawing inspiration from mythical worlds, illustrative character design, and the charm of handmade objects, you'll learn how to breathe life into miniature sculptures through thoughtful forms, gestures, textures, and details. Together we'll discover how even the smallest creature can hint at an entire narrative. Does your mushroom sprite guard forgotten pathways? Has your sleepy woodland beast collected treasures for centuries? Is your curious critter on a grand expedition? Through playful prompts and guided demonstrations, you'll develop a character whose appearance tells a story before a single word is spoken. During the workshop, you'll: Explore the foundations of illustrative character design in three dimensions. Learn techniques for sculpting expressive creatures in solid clay and hollowing out. Experiment with gesture, posture, texture, and proportion to create emotion and personality. Develop a simple backstory that informs your sculptural decisions. Add meaningful details and accessories that enrich your creature's narrative. Leave with a finished sculpture that feels like a tiny character from an unwritten story. Pieces will be mounted on a small diorama or we can make furniture to enhance the narrative you with to create. This class celebrates curiosity over perfection, inviting you to embrace imagination, playful experimentation, and the joy of creating by hand. You'll be encouraged to think like both a sculptor and a storyteller.
